The Question

"What emerging trends will reshape the transportation industry in the next 10-20 years? How can Purolator profitably adapt to these trends?"

Purolator is dedicated to investing in solutions that can help the company adapt to the ever-changing transportation needs of its customers. Purolator is looking for new, innovative ideas – and there’s no better way to do this than giving young Canadians a chance to offer their perspectives on the transportation industry.

A great idea that comes through this Challenge could fundamentally change Purolator’s business. What better way to kick off your career?

Background

As Canada’s leading integrated freight, parcel and logistics solutions provider, Purolator has built one of Canada’s most extensive transportation and logistics networks and supporting infrastructure. The advantages of this size and scale benefit the company’s customers, with more facilities in more regional centres than any other freight and parcel solutions provider in Canada. Whether it’s provincially or regionally, Purolator’s customers can count on best-in-class service and support, wherever they are.

Purolator's core business moves packages overnight, from one Canadian business to another. They also have economical shipping options, international products, and all sorts of other transportation offerings, such as less-than-truckload (LTL) shipping and logistics.

Purolator's vision is: "We make Canada stronger by delivering our customers' promises."

The "promises" that Purolator's customers ask them to keep will evolve through time – because of this, Purolator is dedicated to ensuring that the company keeps up with, and delivers on, new trends. That is the root of this Challenge.

What Purolator Is Looking For

Purolator is looking for students who are intellectually curious and sharply analytical. They must be able to think on a high level, while being able to identify and address small details.

Your submission can include written proposals, visual diagrams, videos – anything that conveys your strategy best! A PowerPoint presentation is the ideal format for uploading your project, but we will be flexible in the formats we accept.

(If you have questions about submissions, please submit your inquiry at the top of the page.)

Purolator will be evaluating your submission based on the following criteria:

  • Creativity: Have you thought of something new and innovative?
  • Feasibility: Can your idea(s) reasonably be applied in the real world?
  • Structure: Does your submission flow in a way that makes sense and tells a cohesive story?

Each of these attributes will be equally weighted and voted on by a steering committee of cross-functional Purolator employees.

Ready to create your winning submission? Keep these tips in mind:
  • Do your research – get to know Purolator and the transportation industry.
  • Stay inquisitive – use your own judgement, and don’t believe everything you read.
  • Take everything in consideration – have you considered the market? Purolator’s competition?

What’s in it for you?
